Issue
Following a recent acquisition, our client faced the challenge of developing a unified culture and addressing the varying needs of their diverse employee groups. Despite offering a robust benefits package, leadership observed a trend of low benefits uptake and mixed signals regarding employee satisfaction. This disconnect raised concerns about employee attraction, engagement, and retention. It became clear that the newly acquired workforce, composed of caregivers and administrative staff, required a more nuanced approach to understand what truly mattered to them.
The client partnered with CBIZ to improve the everyday employee experience, enhance cultural integration, and build trust and retention in a post-acquisition landscape.
Solution
To bridge the gap between leadership intentions and employee realities, the CBIZ Engagement & Wellbeing team designed and executed a comprehensive Employee Experience Evaluation.
The Comprehensive Evaluation Design encompassed a multi-phase project to explore key dimensions of employee satisfaction, engagement, and workplace culture through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
This initiative included:
- Targeted Site Selection: Five key sites were selected across the client’s national footprint, prioritized based on employee population size and historically low benefits adoption rates.
- Tailored Focus Group Engagement: Ten onsite focus groups were conducted, with caregivers and administrative staff divided, to uncover role-specific insights
and explore distinct workplace experiences. - Pre-session Employee Survey: Focus group participants completed a pre-session survey to complement verbal feedback with structured data, providing a
dual-lens view of employee sentiment. - Integrated Data Analysis: Our team synthesized findings across focus groups and surveys to identify shared themes, unique needs, and critical gaps, guiding our recommendations.
Outcome
- High engagement and robust participation in focus groups and surveys yielded rich and representative data.
- A comprehensive employee experience analysis report defined 5 key areas and provided leadership with strategic recommendations prioritizing current benefits, organizational support, wellbeing, compensation, and value at work.
- Employee feedback affirmed the client’s decision to change medical carriers to offer a broader and more accessible network.
- A new wellbeing program was promptly introduced for all employees and their spouses, regardless of benefit status, and all new wellbeing offerings are reviewed to ensure they are inclusive and accessible — reinforcing the company’s commitment to holistic health.
- The project surfaced critical insights into the unique needs of distinct employee populations, fostering more culturally sensitive decision-making and enabling deeper integration across legacy organizations.
- Leadership now has evidence-based insights to shape future employee experience strategies, grounded in the voices of those they aim to serve.
