Issue
A government client was experiencing challenges with its Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as demand for accessible, cost-effective mental health resources continued to grow. Employees were increasingly seeking support for everyday life stressors, as well as specialized services tailored to the unique needs of first responders. To address these concerns, CBIZ partnered with its internal Wellbeing Practice to evaluate available solutions and identify an approach that would enhance employee support and better meet the evolving needs of the workforce.
Solution
CBIZ conducted a comprehensive evaluation of on-site counseling solutions to identify options that met the needs of the entire employee population, including the unique challenges faced by first responders. To ensure employees had access to appropriate and effective support, CBIZ assessed qualified providers and interviewed therapists with the specialized experience and credentials necessary to serve the client’s workforce.
Outcome
In the first year, the client implemented free on-site counseling services for all employees. Utilization increased by nearly 60% from program launch through year-end. Employee survey feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many participants reporting personal benefits from the counseling services. To improve accessibility and accommodate scheduling constraints, the client expanded the program in year two to include telephonic and virtual counseling options.
