Chief Benefits Officer 

We are proud to partner with our client, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS or the “System”) to find their next Chief Benefits Officer.

 KPERS provides guaranteed lifetime benefits to Kansas public servants when they retire, as well as disability and death benefits to protect them while they are still working.  Our membership includes people from all walks of life, in a variety of jobs, with one thing in common - serving Kansans. The fiduciary standard is our guiding principle and driving force. That means we put the interest of our members first and foremost and are committed to providing them the best possible service. More than 1,500 employers offer KPERS benefits to their employees. Our membership totals over 340,000 active, inactive and retired members. 

KPERS is embarking on a 5-year pension administration modernization project. The current Chief Benefits Officer is assuming a new role as Deputy Executive Director for Modernization for this initiative. The new Chief Benefits Officer will work closely with her/his predecessor during the life of this project.

The Chief Benefits Officer is responsible for the overall management of the Benefits and Member Services Division of the System to ensure that members receive accurate and timely benefit services and payments. The Chief Benefits Officer serves as a member of the System’s senior management team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Chief Benefits Officer will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the System and will deal frequently with Trustees, members, employers, other stakeholders and the public.

Chief Fiscal Officer 

CBIZ is honored to partner with our client, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS or the “System”) to find their next Chief Fiscal Officer. The current Chief Fiscal Officer is retiring March 15, 2025.

 The Chief Fiscal Officer role reports directly to the Executive Director and will deal with Trustees, legislative staff, Governor’s budget staff, affiliated employers, stakeholders, and the public. This role is responsible for the overall development and maintenance of the financial and accounting functions of the System. This includes oversight of employer reporting and remittance of employer and member contributions, employer audits and reconciliation and accounting of the investment portfolio. This position is responsible for ensuring that the System’s operating divisions, Administration, Information Technology, Fiscal Services, Benefits and Member Services, and Investments, have access to accounting services necessary to fulfill their respective responsibilities.

Deputy Executive Director

The Maryland - National Capital Park and Planning Commission Employees’ Retirement System is seeking their next Deputy Executive Director. The Commission is the bi-county agency empowered to acquire, develop, and administer a regional system of parks in the defined Metropolitan District, and to prepare and administer a general plan for the physical development of a defined Regional District for Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director works cooperatively with the ERS’ management team and serves as second-in-command to the Executive Director. The Deputy Executive Director assists in planning, developing, and evaluating goals, programs, policies, and procedures, acts as an intermediary for the Executive Director in highly sensitive and critical matters and is responsible for implementation and coordination of day-to-day functions and operations of the ERS. Additionally, the Deputy Executive Director recommends and implements Board policies and procedures, which are required by the Board to discharge its statutory and regulatory responsibilities.

Investment Manager – Real Assets (Applications Closed)

We are proud to partner with our client, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), in seeking an Investment Manager-Real Assets. CalPERS is headquartered in Sacramento, CA and is the nation’s largest defined benefit public pension fund with a total fiduciary net position in the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF) of $503.59 billion as of July 2, 2024. CalPERS provides retirement benefit services to nearly 2.2 million members and health benefit services to over 1.5 million covered lives for state, school, and public employers.

The Investment Manager (IM) will assist in the management of the CalPERS RA portfolio in implementing RA’s Strategic Plan. The RA unit is responsible for the management of CalPERS assets in various investment sectors including real estate, infrastructure, and forestland. The strategic objective of RA is to provide a stable long horizon income return, diversification to equity risk, and a partial inflation hedge. The IM works under the direction of the RA Investment Director (ID). The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and underwriting new investment opportunities, managing assigned portfolios, and ensuring appropriate processes, controls, systems, and risk management are in place within their area of responsibility to enable investment performance and assure control of operations.

Vice President of Investments

We are proud to partner with our client, to find their next Vice President of Investments. Our client is a privately held company that includes a diverse investment portfolio of business enterprises in various industries such as real estate, marketable securities and other investments. Our client is based in Wichita, KS, but the VP of Investments can reside in Wichita, Greater Kansas City or the Dallas Metroplex.

The Vice President of Investments opportunity requires an analytically strong team member who possesses excellent communication skills and desires to be part of a relatively small, fast-paced group which focuses on driving results while also challenging each other, and the overall organization to continually improve. The successful candidate will join a family office team advocating for portfolio design and asset allocation of a variety of alternative investments, sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities and is expected to work on a variety of investment, analytical, projects, and other activities, given the evolution, complexity and anticipated continued growth of the portfolio. This investment leader will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President – Finance, as well interact frequently with other executives (including the President, Trustees and Finance Committee).
