Rhode Island Increases Temporary Caregiver Leave

The governor of Rhode Island has signed into law amendments to the Temporary Caregiver Insurance (TCI) law that will increase the amount of leave benefits beginning January 1, 2025. The Rhode Island TCI law allows employees to take up to six weeks of job-protected leave to bond with a child or to care for a family member who has a serious health condition.

The TCI law applies to employers in the state employing one or more individuals. An individual who works for an employer and meets certain monetary standards is eligible for TCI leave.

The amendment increases the temporary caregiver leave benefit to 7 weeks beginning January 1, 2025, and to 8 weeks beginning January 1, 2026.
