Pay Transparency Comes to New Jersey

On November 18, 2024, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed pay transparency legislation that will require employers, beginning in June 2025, to disclose compensation and benefits in job postings.

This law applies to an employer employing 10 or more employees over 20 calendar weeks that does business, employs persons, or takes applications for employment within the Garden State, including state and local governments and job placement and referral agencies.

Each internal or external new job posting, or transfer opportunity must display either the hourly wage or salary and a general description of benefits and other compensation programs for which the applicant would be eligible.

An entity that violates the law will be subject to civil penalties of $300 for a first violation and $600 for subsequent violations.
