Collecting taxes on the full range of commerce conducted within a state is difficult due to the complexity in sales tax requirements. The Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) is designed to streamline the sales tax process. States that adopt the SSUTA agree to follow a set of standards, definitions and policy to simplify sales tax reporting. Tennessee began adopting provisions of the SSUTA in 2008 and 2009, and is gearing up to adopt one of the SSUTA's biggest provisions—destination sourcing.
The changes to destination sourcing are set to take effect on July 1, 2017. POS systems will require significant modifications in order to meet the new requirements. CBIZ MHM's sales tax compliance professionals are here to assist you with the transition. Our team is experienced with the destination sourcing provisions and the steps involved in converting your current system to the SSUTA standards. We will keep you up-to-date with information about the transition as it becomes available. Resources and other relevant information are available through this resource center.
