Client Profile
Industry: | Electrical Construction | Entity Structure: | Corporation | Geographic Footprint: | Eastern KS/Western MO | Annual Revenue: | $60 Million | Number of Employees: | 300 | |
Problem
The client, an electrical contractor, was facing a multi-department reorganization. Part of the reorganization included changing the safety culture from reactive to proactive. In addition, they had a high mod rate on workers’ comp and preventable workplace injuries were occuring frequently.
Solution
To make the reorganization easier on the client, the CBIZ team recommended establishment of a safety committee with representation from all departments. Training programs were conducted to establish standards of safety practices. Our risk advisors conducted training on defensive driving, slip/trip/fall prevention, sexual harassment, workers’ compensation and job site contractor management.
Outcome
The committee regularly discusses new and open claims as a way to prevent reoccurrences across all departments within the organization and raise awareness. An employee safety handbook was also developed and introduced to staff. Because of the increase in awareness and communication, work comp claims declined 22% and the mod rate declined to .9 since the committee was enacted.
