Maryland’s Time to Care Act Delayed

The Governor of Maryland has signed a law delaying the contribution and benefit dates of the paid family leave program. The law delays the date contributions are to begin to July 1, 2025 (previously October 1, 2024) and delays the date benefits are available to July 1, 2026 (previously January 1, 2026). The contribution rate will be set by the Secretary of Labor on or before February 1, 2025.

As a reminder, Maryland’s Time to Care Act provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of paid leave for baby bonding, to care for a family member, for one’s own serious health condition, or a qualifying military exigency. See prior Benefit Beat articles here, here, and here.
