CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay will host a second annual half-day CFO & Controller Conference focused on the new CFO.  The responsibilities of the CFO have become more diverse than ever before. Today’s dynamic environment demands that the CFO play a strategic role in providing financial perspective, building partnerships, marketing strategies, technology decisions, and even employee engagement programs.

Hear the latest on these topics as well as perspectives from local CFOs who have expanded their roles throughout their career.

The event will take place May 23rd at USF Health, Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation in downtown Tampa.  The conference will qualify for 4 hours of CPE credit.  Pre-registration is required, and attendees can register now online for a fee of $50, which includes the cost of the conference, breakfast, lunch, and parking.

To get in the Holiday spirit, the office hosted a cubical decorating contest and Holiday sweater contest. The winners, pictured below, were announced at a pizza luncheon in the office. A secret Santa calendar exchange topped off the day’s activities.

The Holiday activities wrapped up with the annual Firm Day and Holiday Party held at Busch Gardens this year. To kick off the day, all employees participated in a photo scavenger hunt team-building exercise throughout the park. Employees were divided into 15 teams competing to see who could capture the most compelling, outrageous, and high-point-value photos.

After the team-building, everyone went to the Gwazi Pavilion for lunch and an unforgettable video presentation culminating the day’s events. Employees were free to enjoy the park after lunch for the remainder of the day.

For the second year in a row, the CBIZ Florida offices sponsored the ACG Capital Connection Conference in Amelia Island. This year’s conference, held November 15-16, attracted more than 450 attendees from 26 states to the Ritz-Carlton. The CBIZ Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) group was present and sponsored charging stations at the event.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of CBIZ this year, a total of 20,000 hours of volunteer time in local communities nationwide will be donated in addition to the donation of $20,000 to a CBIZ-sponsored charity. The Tampa Bay office chose to volunteer for both Junior Achievement and Bay Pines Veterans Hospital.

More than 50 Junior Achievement volunteers spent the morning at Lynch Elementary School in St. Petersburg teaching 2nd, 3rd and 5th graders a variety of different lesson plans. Due to the efforts of our volunteers, we were able to reach more than 300 students through the Junior Achievement program.

More than 60 C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center volunteers spent the morning visiting with veterans, cleaning and sanitizing wheelchairs, and assisting veterans with their commute to a Veterans Day Ceremony honoring all who served.

It is that time of year again for the CBIZ National Food Drive. This year’s theme is Decision 2016: Vote to End Hunger, in the spirit of the presidential election. The food drive ran nationally from October 31 – November 11.The goal is to eliminate hunger in our local communities through collection of nonperishable food items, monetary donations, and volunteer time.

The company-wide goal was to collect 900,000 pounds of food and the challenge for each office was to increase their total by at least 10% over last year. The Tampa Bay office exceeded our goal of last year’s total by 25%, with a grand total of 39,814 pounds collected! $7,848 in monetary donations and 574 pounds of food items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen of Upper Pinellas.

Thank you to all for casting your vote to end hunger this year and providing assistance to a lot of people in need this holiday season.

CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk at Amalie Arena earlier this month.

The Beta Alpha Psi Delta Gamma Chapter at The University of South Florida and the Beta Alpha Psi Lambda Beta Chapter at the University of Tampa joined Team CBIZ Tampa Bay to support the cause by participating in the 5k walk and by donating online.

Hosted throughout the nation, these walks help the American Cancer Society to continue to accelerate progress in breast cancer research and keep people with breast cancer healthy while we work towards a cure. Over 500 teams participated in this event, raising $464,377 for Making Strides of Hillsborough. This year the Tampa Bay office raised $2,715!

Oscar is the President & CEO of Sun State International Trucks LLC since 2000. With more than 25 years of experience at International Truck & Engine Corporation, Oscar has a proven record of managing organizational change and improving business efficiencies.


Steve Knopik of Beall’s, Inc.

Steve joined Beall’s, Inc. in 1984 as the Director of Finance and grew with the Company over the ensuing 22 years and advanced through a number of leadership roles before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2006.




Steve Raymund of Tech Data Corporation

Steve has served Tech Data as a Director since 1986, Chairman of the Board since 1991, and CEO from 1986 through 2006. Steve is also a director of Jabil, Inc., where he is Chair of the Audit Committee, and a director of WESCO International, Inc., where he serves on the Audit and Executive Committees. Steve has substantial experience, knowledge, and relationships within the IT distribution channel that allow him to provide value related to finance, management, supplier and customer relationships, operations, and risk.

Kris joined Baldwin Risk Partners (BRP) in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer. He oversees finance, mergers and acquisitions, accounting and legal for all four BRP brands. As part of CBIZ & MHM’s Executive Roundtable Series, the Tampa Bay office is hosting a Post-Election Tax & Business Update roundtable. 2016 will be the 58th Presidential Election for the United States, and the only certainty is that we will have a new president for the next four years occupying the White House.

This seminar will discuss the potential impact the election results have on tax reform and other prominent business issues. Bill Smith, Managing Director for CBIZ MHM’s National Tax Office, along with a panel of local key executives will provide their opinions and insight on key races and the expected impact on businesses post-election day.
