To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of CBIZ this year, a total of 20,000 hours of volunteer time in local communities nationwide will be donated in addition to the donation of $20,000 to a CBIZ-sponsored charity. The Tampa Bay office chose to volunteer for both Junior Achievement and Bay Pines Veterans Hospital.

More than 50 Junior Achievement volunteers spent the morning at Lynch Elementary School in St. Petersburg teaching 2nd, 3rd and 5th graders a variety of different lesson plans. Due to the efforts of our volunteers, we were able to reach more than 300 students through the Junior Achievement program.

More than 60 C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center volunteers spent the morning visiting with veterans, cleaning and sanitizing wheelchairs, and assisting veterans with their commute to a Veterans Day Ceremony honoring all who served.

It is that time of year again for the CBIZ National Food Drive. This year’s theme is Decision 2016: Vote to End Hunger, in the spirit of the presidential election. The food drive ran nationally from October 31 – November 11.The goal is to eliminate hunger in our local communities through collection of nonperishable food items, monetary donations, and volunteer time.

The company-wide goal was to collect 900,000 pounds of food and the challenge for each office was to increase their total by at least 10% over last year. The Tampa Bay office exceeded our goal of last year’s total by 25%, with a grand total of 39,814 pounds collected! $7,848 in monetary donations and 574 pounds of food items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen of Upper Pinellas.

CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk at Amalie Arena earlier this month.

The Beta Alpha Psi Delta Gamma Chapter at The University of South Florida and the Beta Alpha Psi Lambda Beta Chapter at the University of Tampa joined Team CBIZ Tampa Bay to support the cause by participating in the 5k walk and by donating online.

Hosted throughout the nation, these walks help the American Cancer Society to continue to accelerate progress in breast cancer research and keep people with breast cancer healthy while we work towards a cure. Over 500 teams participated in this event, raising $464,377 for Making Strides of Hillsborough. This year the Tampa Bay office raised $2,715!

On Saturday October 1st, a group of employees from the Memphis office volunteered to help with registration and accounting aspects at the JDRF One Walk, a one mile walk to raise money and awareness for the millions affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The walk was held at the newly redesigned Shelby Farms Park.

Many of the teams brought tents, chairs, and music to set-up in the center of the field at Shelby Farms Park where most of the excitement took place. One of the crowded favorites was the aerialists that performed after the walk, one of which was diagnosed with T1D at just 2 years old.

Members of #teamcbiz helped to check people in at the registration table and provide a welcoming attitude to many families that have children struggling with Type 1 Diabetes. The Memphis office's own, Vicki Bari, helped to calculate the overall money count for the 2016 JDRF One Walk. This year, the event raised over $460,000!

CBIZ & MHM Memphis is always proud to be a part of community events like this one. It is great to see many different people unite over making the world a better place, especially a place without Type 1 Diabetes.

As a way to celebrate their 20th anniversary, CBIZ planned something pretty spectacular: A total of 20,000 hours of community service across all offices nationwide in their local communities. The Memphis office was excited about this challenge and opportunity and jumped right into the planning.

On August 25th, 60 volunteers headed out to Shelby Farms, a park with 4,500 acres of green space and 6.5 miles of urban trail located in the heart of Shelby County. The park recently reopened on September 1st after undergoing a massive transformation.

For our afternoon outside, we sprayed ourselves with bug spray, slipped our hands into work gloves, and headed out to the disc golf course to cut back and clear the overgrown brush.

After our hard labor, we proceeded to have a bit of fun. All volunteers traveled in a sea of green "CBIZ Cares" shirts over to the post-service party. The party included a Say Cheese grilled cheese truck, the Mempops food truck, and the Tap Box drink truck.

Saturday, May 21, 2016 was CPA Day of Service statewide across Florida hosted by the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). Ten employees from our Tampa Bay practice volunteered to give back to the community by participating in two home builds for Habitat for Humanity in Pinellas County.

Altogether, more than 190 CPAs with their family members and friends gathered to give back to 14 different Florida communities on the 2016 CPA Day of Service. “CPA Day of Service is a great way for CPAs to unite for the greater good of a community,” said Jessi Levine, 2015-16 Young CPA Committee Chair and Manager at CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay. “We could not have done it without the many volunteers who showed up with smiles and ready hands to make Florida a better place to live and work!”

The Go Game team-building served as the perfect event for Tampa Bay’s annual Firm Day and Holiday Party. To kick off the day, all employees met at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club for team-building throughout downtown St. Petersburg. The Go Game facilitator had quite the experience planned for the thirteen staff teams. Each team received a smart phone that guided them through a series of challenges including:

  • Location-Based Puzzles
  • Fun, Challenging Trivia
  • Head-to-Head Interteams
  • Actor/Plant Interactions
  • Creative Photo/Video Missions

This combination of challenges broke down barriers between players, created strong team identification, and got teams to tap into a wide variety of skills including creativity, communication, problem solving, and time management. After the team-building, everyone went to the Yacht Club for lunch and an unforgettable video presentation culminating the day’s events. Teams voted for their favorites, and The Go Game tallied the point totals to determine the winners.

Following The Go Game awards ceremony, Senior Managing Director, Bill Tapp followed with a state-of-the-firm presentation. Staff had the opportunity to welcome new employees, congratulate promoted individuals and anniversaries, and discuss internal metrics. Pete Scalia, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, had a special thank you for the firm’s donations from the Food Drive.

After lunch, everyone headed back to the CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay office for casino games, photo booth fun, a calendar exchange, and raffle prizes.

It is that time of the year again for the CBIZ National Food Drive.  In the spirit of the Star Wars Saga, the theme for this year’s food drive was:  HUNGER WARS:  EPISODE 2015.  The food drive ran nationally from November 2-13. CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay donated all collections this year to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen of Upper Pinellas.

The company-wide goal was to collect 700,000 pounds of food and the challenge for each office was to increase their total by at least 10% over last year.  The Tampa Bay office of CBIZ & MHM exceeded our goal of last year’s total by 23%, with a grand total of 31,812 pounds collected!  $6,252 in monetary donations and 552 pounds of food items will be donated to the SVDP Soup Kitchen this year.

The food drive kicked off with a company-wide breakfast for a minimum donation.  There was also a bake sale silent auction and fundraising luncheon as other donation opportunities.

Thank you to all for rebelling against the “Hunger Wars” and doing our part to make sure no child, senior or family in our community goes hungry this holiday season.

Almost 90 employees participated in the 5k walk for the 2nd year in a row, as well as some who virtually completed it by donating online.  This year’s Heart Walk involved more than 35,000 participants and raised more than $3.8 million for the American Heart Association, exceeding this year’s goal of $3.5 million and making the Tampa Bay Heart Walk one of the top one or two from a fundraising and participation standpoint in the country.  This year the Tampa Bay office raised $8,025!
