Phil Zaman, director of the National Tax Office and based in the CBIZ MHM Kansas City office, recently shared some advice about tax refunds and identity fraud. Scammers file fraudulent tax returns earlier than the average taxpayer, he told MainStreet.

"The IRS generally assumes it's valid, though they do have some [detecting] algorithms now," Zaman says. Because the scammers file far in advance of when most actual taxpayers file, the taxpayers won't know until long after the file -- when they get a notice that the IRS has bounced their return. "If you file a paper return, it will take you about six weeks to file," he says.

Today is officially moving day for about 430 CBIZ and Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. employees in the Kansas City office! While the move requires significant effort and change from our teams, it’s business as usual for our clients as we seamlessly continue to help them grow their businesses.

The process of “packing up and moving” has been in the works for nearly a year.  To prepare, we’ve shredded and recycled almost 75,000 pounds of paper a month! During the packing process we have also uncovered some great artifacts, representing our deep roots in Kansas City, including a personnel listing written in pencil dating back to 1968.

Today, we’re able to serve clients locally and across the country – combining technology with personal expertise. Those eight-inch floppy discs we found are a great reminder of how things have changed!

We look forward to continuing a strong commitment to our clients and growing their businesses inside the walls of 12,000 square feet at our new location. We’ll be up and running on Monday morning at 700 West 47th Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
