For a variety of taxes it administers, the Ohio Department of Taxation (DOT) has begun a campaign to educate taxpayers about its upcoming tax amnesty. As announced previously, the amnesty will run from Jan. 1, 2018, through Feb. 15, 2018. Eligible taxpayers who fully pay qualifying tax delinquencies that were due or payable as of May 1, 2017, will owe no penalties and only half of the interest normally charged.
The DOT has created a website (http://www.ohiotaxamnesty.gov/) to assist taxpayers in determining their eligibility and to learn more about the program.Taxes eligible for amnesty include:
- Individual income tax
- School district income tax
- Employer withholding tax
- Employer withholding for school district income tax
- Pass-through entity tax
- Sales tax
- Use tax
- Commercial activity tax
- Financial institutions tax
- Cigarette and other tobacco products taxes; and
- Alcoholic beverage taxes
