We recently welcomed representatives from over 80 private equity firms during our annual Private Equity Golf Championship at Friar’s Head Golf Club in Riverhead, New York. Now in its fourth year, the affair has grown dramatically, attracting guests from private equity groups across the country for networking, sportsmanship and friendly competition.
The event kicked off on September 17 with a pre-championship dinner held at Macari Vineyards. Guests enjoyed the beautiful winery and the numerous varietals produced, as old and new friends gathered for dinner.
Early the next day, golfers began to arrive for the championship. With nothing but a tiny black mailbox marking the entrance, guests traveled down a hidden driveway that led them to a breathtaking view of the property located right on the cliffs of the Long Island Sound. Each attendee was greeted by the club’s staff who systematically welcomed and tagged their bags while directing them to check in with the CBIZ team.
On the course, guests were welcomed by ambassadors from CBIZ and two sponsors, Porsche and Sentient Jet.
At the conclusion of the tournament, guests reunited for an evening reception on the great lawn of the property where one of only 14 whisky masters provided an Oban whisky tasting. In addition to awarding the prizes, Jeff Gluck, Senior Managing Director of the New York office, addressed the group. “In 2014, when this championship was born, we were two offices dedicated to the private equity market with 41 golfers in attendance," Gluck said. "In just four years, we have grown to over 100 golfers in attendance and a practice with a national footprint.”
