The CBIZ Small Business Employment Index shows slight decline in June hiring

Our June Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and results show that despite a hiring increase in May, there was a .21 percent decline in hiring last month. The June index does not fully indicate a change in the direction of small business hiring, however -- the number of companies reporting a positive change exceeded those reporting a negative change.

To contrast, ADP’s June jobs survey reported that the private sector added 135,000 jobs, which is under analysts’ estimates of 167,000 jobs. Nonetheless, June’s numbers did beat April’s revised tally, which was lowered to 113,000 added jobs.

Additional information on these findings can be found in June's Small Business Employment Index press release.
