Our June Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and results show that despite a hiring increase in May, there was a .21 percent decline in hiring last month. The June index does not fully indicate a change in the direction of small business hiring, however -- the number of companies reporting a positive change exceeded those reporting a negative change.

Our May Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a significant increase of 1.91 percent during the month, following a slight increase of .43 percent in small business hiring in April. In an interesting contrast, ADP’s May jobs survey illustrated that the private sector added just 135,000 jobs, well below analysts’ estimates of 167,000 jobs.

Our April Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a slight uptick of .43 percent during the month, following an impressive increase of 1.25 percent in small business hiring in March. In contrast, ADP’s April jobs survey illustrated that the private sector added just 119,000 jobs, well below analysts’ estimates of 150,000 jobs.

Our March Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a significant 1.25 percent increase during the month, following a slight increase of .20 percent in small business hiring in February. In contrast, ADP’s March jobs survey illustrated that the private sector added just 158,000 jobs, which was the smallest since October 2012 and considerably less than analysts’ estimates of 200,000 jobs.

Our February Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a .20 percent increase during the month, following a decrease of 2.37 percent in small business hiring in January. In comparison, ADP’s February jobs survey demonstrated that the private sector added 198,000 jobs, exceeding analysts’ estimates of 170,000 jobs, but falling short of January’s tally, which was revised upward to 215,000 added jobs.

Our January Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a 2.37 percent decrease during the month, following a decrease of 0.39 percent in small business hiring in December. Although the SBEI showed a reduction, the index saw its lowest seasonal decline in the month of January in two years.

Our December Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a 0.39 percent increase during December, following a decrease of 0.82 percent in small business hiring in November. The SBEI’s increase in small business hiring coincides with ADP’s December jobs survey, which revealed that the private sector added 215,000 jobs, significantly exceeding analysts’ estimates of 140,000 jobs and surpassing November’s revised tally of 148,000 added jobs.

The November CBIZ Small Business Employment Index (SBEI) has been released and the findings show a 0.82 percent increase during November, following a decrease of 0.89 percent in small business hiring in October. The SBEI’s slight increase in small business hiring corresponds with ADP’s November jobs survey, which revealed that the private sector added 118,000 jobs in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, however still came up short compared to October’s revised tally of 157,000 added jobs.
