The Aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Health Care Law Ruling (article)

Since the U.S. Supreme Court issued its health care law ruling on June 28, most of the attention has focused on its mandates, expansion of coverage and state insurance exchanges. But the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 includes some significant tax-related provisions affecting employers and individuals that are scheduled to take effect in 2013 and 2014, unless Congress repeals them or takes other action.

The IRS and the Social Security Administration released at least some of their inflation-adjusted figures for 2013. Notably absent from the list were figures such as the tax rate tables, personal exemption, standard deduction and lifetime gift and estate exclusion — all items whose fates depend on what Congress decides to do with the Bush tax cuts that expire at the end of 2012.

JCEB/EEOC Talk – Much Remains Unclear

Each spring, the ABA’s Joint Commission on Employee Benefits (JCEB) sits down with various government agencies to ask questions about a range of benefit issues.  While the information obtained by the JCEB certainly does not rise to the level of law, nor is it in any way binding upon agencies, it does give some indication about how the agencies are viewing certain situations.
