Wynn Goering has over 25 years of administrative experience working in institutions of Higher Education. Dr. Goering’s experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, two-year and four-year institutions, small and large campuses, local and system governance, and diverse cultural settings, gives him a unique perspective on the challenges and requirements for successful leaders.
In his wide-ranging tenure at the University of New Mexico, Wynn was appointed to numerous leadership positions throughout the institution. At the time of his retirement in 2017 he was the chief executive officer of UNM West in Rio Rancho, overlapping a two-year appointment as Special Assistant to the President for Branch Campus Affairs from 2012 to 2014.
Goering held the positions of Associate Provost and later Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at UNM from 2005 to 2012. Before that he worked for two years as Special Assistant to President Louis Caldera, and served an interim appointment as UNM’s Vice President for Advancement. At various times he served as the interim chief executive officer of UNM’s branch campuses in Taos, Gallup and Los Alamos. Goering came to UNM from Bethel College in Kansas, where he was Academic Dean from 1991 to 1997.
