James (Jim) Dobberstein, CPA, has been with CBIZ SLD for nearly forty years. He oversees shareholder and operating decisions, leads the firm’s employees in the delivery of exceptional client service and directs the path forward in the firm’s market growth. Under Jim’s leadership, CBIZ SLD has grown exponentially in size, made several acquisitions and emerged as one of the largest and most venerable accounting firms in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jim is also active in many of the firm’s long-standing client relationships. “I value getting to personally know our clients and their aspirations, then finding ways to connect them with new opportunities to help get them where they want to go.”
A great deal of resources has been dedicated to ensuring the firm is a great place for all that are a part of it. “The key to our firm’s success over these past 70-plus years is the focus on our staff and clients, which go hand-in-hand. By helping our staff develop and succeed, we can better assist our clients in their own growth and success,” says Jim, “We’re developing the future leaders of Shea Labagh Dobberstein to carry on our legacy and take the firm to the next level.”
After graduating from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Jim came right to work for Shea and Shea, as the firm was known back then. At the time, Jim knew he wanted to make a positive difference and this core value resonates across CBIZ SLD and its people today. “I want to make this an innovative, fun and professional workplace that endures as an indispensable resource for the individuals, nonprofits and private businesses that we serve,” explains Jim. “It’s more than just looking at the numbers. Our people are here to partner with our clients, and give them ‘peace of mind’ by eliminating obstacles and simplifying complexities.”
Jim is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the California Society of CPAs. He is one of the original Founding board members and initial shareholders of the Bank of San Francisco, and currently serves as a member of the Presidio San Francisco Advisory Board.
Outside of work, Jim enjoys staying involved in the activities of his four children.
